Today John and Somaya talk about brand names which have become part of the English language.
The internet search engine "Google" has become so widely used, the brand name has entered the Oxford English Dictionary as a noun.
Sometimes the word is also used as a verb - 'to google'. For example, 'I googled it, and found out lots of background information'.
The Metro newspaper in the UK reports that 'Google', the company wants to ban the use of the brand name as a verb.
It says that lawyers have sent stern letters to the media - newspapers, television and radio stations warning that they should use the Google company name correctly.
They say that if the word 'Google' becomes a verb, the commercial value of the brand name becomes lost.
There are other examples of brand names becoming the standard word used to describe an item.
In the UK, Hoover is a well established brand of vacuum cleaner. The company name Hoover has become the most commonly used word to describe a vaccum cleaner in everyday speech.
Sellotape is another company name which is used to describe adhesive tape.
And Jacuzzi a company which produces hot tubs with bubbles has a whole website explaining how its brand name should be used.
John says that many companies threaten legal action if their brand names are used incorrectly.
They are protective of their brand identity. Some companies ask the public to email them if they see examples of their brand names being used incorrectly.
